The person hired to record the voiceover was told it should be less Morgan Freeman/Denzel Washington, and more Jamie Foxx, according to SI.
George, a five-time All-Star, averaged 21.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game for Oklahoma City in 2017-1Los Angeles reportedly is also interested in signing free agent LeBron James and attempting to trade for disgruntled Spurs star Kawhi Leonard.
Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr, a noted Dodgers fan, attended the game and sat next to the Giants dugout, at one point reaching over to shake hands with Bochy.
Giants: C Buster Posey was held out of the starting lineup due to the pitching matchup but had a pinch-hit single in the eighth.
Foltynewicz (6-4) surrendered one hit — a fourth-inning single to Marcell Ozuna. He struck out nine and walked three in an 86-pitch outing.
He never gave in, he kept grinding, manager Brian Snitker said.
Foltynewicz has allowed just two hits and one run over 10 innings in two outings since coming off the disabled list with tightness in his right tricepts on June 25.
He was kind of wildly effective, St. Louis infielder Kolten Wong said. When you’re throwing as hard as he was, it makes it tough.
The Braves three starters allowed seven hits over 17 2/3 innings with 24 strikeouts in the series.
We’ve been feeding off each other, Foltynewicz said. We’re always pulling for each other, pushing each other, asking questions. We hang around together and you can see that we take it out to the mound. It’s been a really fun time.
That was a hard fought game, San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy said. Tough one when you have a lead in the ninth and we couldn’t hold on to it. Sam was just a little bit off.
Arenado homered off starter Chris Stratton in the first, his 10th this season in the opening frame.
It was also Arenado’s 10th career home run at AT&T Park, tying former Rockies infielder Troy Tulowitzki for second-most among visiting players. Arizona’s Paul Goldschmidt has 11.
Neither starter factored in the decision and had nearly identical lines.
Rockies: LHP Tyler Anderson (4-3, 4.62 ERA) faces the Dodgers in the opener of a three-game series in Los Angeles on Friday. Anderson is unbeaten in nine road starts this season.
Giants: LHP Andrew Suarez (2-4, 4.43) takes the hill against the Diamondbacks on Friday.Foltynewicz helps Braves sweep Cardinals
I think for now I’m very grateful. Obviously, I won the award, so I’m very grateful for that. But that’s not the end goal for me, I have a lot more things that I want to take off. he said.
I’m living in the moment, enjoying this right now. But obviously I have a lot more work to do, and that starts as soon as this is over, get back to work.
The 76ers have been linked with LeBron James as they attempt to make further strides after being denied a place in the Eastern Conference finals by the Celtics.
Simmons feels they would benefit from having more of a blend of youth and experience.
I’ve definitely got to do better, Gant said. Came out on the losing end, so anytime that happens, improvements need to be made.
Francisco Pena had a two-run single in the seventh for St. Louis, which will play 17 of its next 20 games on the road.
Braves RHP Anibal Sanchez (3-2, 2.68) will face RHP Jonathan Loaisiga (2-0, 1.93) in the first of a three-game series against the Yankees in New York. Sanchez is 4-1 in six lifetime starts against the Yankees.
Cardinals: RHP Carlos Martinez (4-4, 3.22) takes on Arizona LHP Robbie Ray (3-0, 4.01) in the opener of a three-game series in Arizona that kicks off a nine-game road trip. Martinez is 2-0 in three starts at Chase Field.
The younger brother of 2018 lottery pick Michael Porter Jr., Jontay opted to return to school after a freshman season that had him rated as a first-round prospect on my board.
The 6-11 big man is highly skilled on the offensive end as a shooter, passer and driver. Hopefully, a return to Missouri will come with improvement physically that makes him a more capable perimeter defender.
Johnson was maybe the most impressive player during McDonald’s All-American week. He was vocal in practices, flashed the ability to knock down shots from outside and consistently got to the rim off the bounce.
He’s not necessarily an elite athlete, which raises questions about his ultimate upside, but he should be an effective pro. Kentucky could rely on him as a primary scorer next season.
Michael Porter Jr. has fallen out of the top 10.
According to ESPN, several teams are hesitant to draft the forward out of fear for his long-term medical outlook.
Porter played just three games in 2017-18 with Missouri as he missed significant time with back and hip issues.
The 6-10 forward has drawn comparisons to Kevin Durant for his size and ability to shoot the ball and was in consideration for the No. 1 pick before his injury problems.
Another interesting scenario presented in the report is the Knicks making the jump from No. New head coach David Fizdale reportedly covets Texas center Mohamed Bamba, who will most certainly be gone in the first eight picks.
Pairing Bamba and his freakish length with Kristaps Porzingis would give New York one of the more intriguing (and gangly) lineups in the NBA.
Beyond the name and the 6-10 frame, it’s not clear what Antetokounmpo actually offers as an NBA prospect at this stage. He played just 15 minutes per game for Dayton as a freshman. This is a purely developmental pick that likely won’t return much value.
Searching for 2018 NBA Draft picks and results without all that annoying analysis? You’ve come to the right place.
Below are the draft picks for Rounds 1 and 2 of the 2018 NBA Draft with results featuring pick number, team and player. Deandre Ayton went No. 1 overall to the Suns (no surprise there), but the trade betwen the Hawks and Mavericks shook up the top five.
Here is the complete round-by-round NBA Draft order along with the full results…
Many teams expressed a level of concern about Lonnie Walker’s medical information, according to multiple sources, which has played a role in his slide out of the lottery. Will be curious to see where he lands — now a lottery-level talent at a discount price.
Already leading 12-7, Washington sandwiched solo homers from Goodwin and Reynolds around Soto’s second of the night, a three-run shot off Hector Neris in the ninth.
Adam Eaton led off with a single and Turner quickly made it 2-0 by sending a 94-mph fastball into the seats in left.
Everybody had fun, Soto said. I hope we can do the same thing tomorrow. Same plans.
The biggest Phillies highlight came in the fifth when Hoskins culminated a 14-pitch at-bat with a line-drive homer to left-center. The Philadelphia slugger fouled off eight pitches, including seven in a row with a 3-2 count. It gave him eight homers and 22 RBI since returning from the DL (broken jaw) on June 9. Hoskins has gone deep in three straight games.
Greinke helped get his teammates going. In the second he singled, easily stole second and scored on Goldschmidt’s two-out single. He added a two-out opposite-field RBI single in the sixth to make it 4-0.
It’s definitely one of the hottest games I’ve thrown in a long time, Skaggs said. I was just tired. I told (manager Mike Scioscia) I rarely come out and say this, but I’m exhausted.
Another international prospect for Brooklyn. Kurucs is a 6-10 forward who has struggled to find consistent playing time at the highest levels in Europe for Barcelona.
The 20-year-old is a shotmaker who can create his own looks off the bounce. We’ll see if he can hold up defensively against NBA athletes or contribute in enough other ways that it won’t matter.
TRADE: Orlando is sending this pick to the Nuggets because that franchise didn’t have enough power forwards on its roster.
Vanderbilt is an intriguing prospect. He’s a former 5-star recruit with a young career ravaged by injuries. At 6-9, he was one of the best rebounders in college basketball last season and he flashes nice playmaking instincts with the ball in his hands. His ability to contribute offensively is rather limited outside of that, though. Given the injury concerns, this is a risky selection.
He had a short stint on the disabled list during the month due to a right hip strain. He struck out nine for the second consecutive start.
It was a good outing, Maeda said through an interpreter. My desire is to be able to pitch deeper into the game and being able to pitch seven innings and is a good thing. But unfortunately, we didn’t get the win and that was something we wanted.
Barria was pulled after giving up a one-out walk to J.D. Martinez with one out in the sixth and the score still tied 1-1. Jose Alvarez gave up a double to Mitch Moreland, with Martinez moving to third. Xander Bogaerts was then walked intentionally to load the bases, and Brock Holt drew a walk to drive in Martinez for Boston’s first lead. Alvarez then got Devers to ground into a double play to end the inning.
The Warriors have the 28th pick this year, and many front-office types will be nervously paying attention to the player Golden State takes, hoping it’s not someone they had high on the board but narrowly passed on. One candidate for that pick who fits the Warriors’ mold: versatile, athletic wing Melvin Frazier of Tulane, who worked out for the team this week.
No matter whom they pick at No. 28, the Warriors will again look to purchase a second-round pick in this year’s draft, a source told Sporting News. Golden State bought a pick from Chicago last year, and used it to select Bell.
If anyone sells them a pick, one GM joked, they ought to have their head checked. Once that first round is over, everyone needs to just not pick up the phone if [Warriors GM Bob] Myers is calling.
Gordon Hayward is feeling good about the future.
In a Monday entry entitled Won’t Be Long Now on his personal blog, the Celtics star explained the reasons for his surgery last month, saying he went under the knife to remove hardware from his ankle.
Hayward, who suffered a gruesome leg injury in the Celtics’ opener and missed the rest of his inaugural season in Boston, expressed optimism about resuming 5-on-5 basketball by the end of next month and being fully healthy for the start of the 2018-19 season.
Mechanically, the first few innings I was a mess, Hammels said. That’s a tough lineup. I felt like I was throwing batting practice today.
So did Hernandez in the first inning, but Seattle manager Scott Servais said they were just hoping to get five innings out of him.
The ball was up in the first because he wasn’t extending due to the tightness in his back, Servais said. He wasn’t finishing his pitches, but he got through it. The key was keeping us in the game, which he did, and we took advantage of it.
The Mariners (53-31) are 22 games over .500 for the first time since the end of the 2003 season. They have gone 16 consecutive seasons without a playoff appearance, the longest dry spell in professional sports.
Given the Timberwolves were the most motivated (and perhaps only) suitor for Rose when he was waived by the Utah Jazz after the trade deadline, it’s no surprise he’s returning to Minnesota on a similar contract.
Rose played reasonably well for the Timberwolves in the playoffs, breaking down Houston’s switches to score one-on-one. It didn’t hurt that Rose shot 7-of-10 on 3s in those four games, something Minnesota can’t count on continuing.
The biggest risk of re-signing Rose is that he cuts into the minutes for the superior Tyus Jones as a backup to Jeff Teague. But Rose played the majority of his minutes in the regular season alongside Jones (72 out of 119, per NBA Advanced Stats), so that concern might be somewhat overstated.
