Gordon Hayward is feeling good about the future.
In a Monday entry entitled Won’t Be Long Now on his personal blog, the Celtics star explained the reasons for his surgery last month, saying he went under the knife to remove hardware from his ankle.
Hayward, who suffered a gruesome leg injury in the Celtics’ opener and missed the rest of his inaugural season in Boston, expressed optimism about resuming 5-on-5 basketball by the end of next month and being fully healthy for the start of the 2018-19 season.
Mechanically, the first few innings I was a mess, Hammels said. That’s a tough lineup. I felt like I was throwing batting practice today.
So did Hernandez in the first inning, but Seattle manager Scott Servais said they were just hoping to get five innings out of him.
The ball was up in the first because he wasn’t extending due to the tightness in his back, Servais said. He wasn’t finishing his pitches, but he got through it. The key was keeping us in the game, which he did, and we took advantage of it.
The Mariners (53-31) are 22 games over .500 for the first time since the end of the 2003 season. They have gone 16 consecutive seasons without a playoff appearance, the longest dry spell in professional sports.
Given the Timberwolves were the most motivated (and perhaps only) suitor for Rose when he was waived by the Utah Jazz after the trade deadline, it’s no surprise he’s returning to Minnesota on a similar contract.
Rose played reasonably well for the Timberwolves in the playoffs, breaking down Houston’s switches to score one-on-one. It didn’t hurt that Rose shot 7-of-10 on 3s in those four games, something Minnesota can’t count on continuing.
The biggest risk of re-signing Rose is that he cuts into the minutes for the superior Tyus Jones as a backup to Jeff Teague. But Rose played the majority of his minutes in the regular season alongside Jones (72 out of 119, per NBA Advanced Stats), so that concern might be somewhat overstated.
